Analysis of newbuilding projects

Route99 is ideal to provide a practical evaluation of future ship designs that a company may be studying. Route99 enable the company to test out ship designs in a “commercial environment” and not only on the drawing boards of the technical departments.

Illustrative: Bulk operator wanting to build OBOS

A major operator of bulk carriers were contemplating to order OBOs and put these into their existing trading  and contract pattern. The company management was sceptical as trading oil cargoes would be a new activity and they were not convinced about the economics. The OBOs were obviously more expensive to build and also to run that the standard bulker. Could this extra cost be justified ?

By developing the scenario of existing bulk contracts and adding potential oil cargo movements, specifying anticipated market rates, Route99 were able to show that the extra earnings of OBOs were say 5,000 USD/day better than a similar size Bulker. It was felt that this improvement in TC earnings were more than substantial to justify the ordering of OBOs and consequently OBOS were ordered rather than Bulkers.’
